[s]elected presents the work of the winners and all nominees of the GRA AWARDS. Castrum Peregrini is happy to host this selection for the 2nd time providing a platform for young talent to meet professionals from its´creative network. In addition to the winners, all nominees of the GRA awards are given the opportunity to present their final projects.

With food and stories by the selected participants.
The young artists will tell about their personal sources of inspiration and motives by the use of their selection of video fragments.

GRA Awards
The annual GRA Awards in the categories ‘Fine Art’, ‘Design’ and ‘Thesis’ are awarded on Saturday 6 July at 16.00 p.m. With the awards, the academy provides talented young artists and alumni with a financial contribution to help them build their artistic practice.

The participants of SELECTED present performances, poems, actions and Q&A. Curated by their own style and strength. Mixed into a diversity of departments, means and personalities.
Moderated by Noor Mertens, curator at Museum Booijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and curator of Prospects and Concepts 2016 for Mondriaan Fonds at Art Rotterdam.
SELECTED SALON is part of SELECTED, an exhibition with work of exceptionally talented graduates from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Participants of the exhibition have all been nominated during the Graduation Show of 2016 for the annual ‘GRA Awards’ by an independent jury.

The Winner Takes It All, Macro to Micro Subjectivity:
Selection and Decision Making
Moderated by Clare Butcher.
Speakers: Juan de Porras- Isla, Baha Görkem Yalim, Vincent van Velsen & Alix de Massiac.
'Duck or Penguin? Blue or Green? TV or Beamer? Selecting and rejecting are the essence in both the making and the circulation of art. Does the subjectivity of a few define success? Or do their choices respond to measurable and predictable terms?
In this Salon, part of the exhibition Selected, both cultural mediators and artists share their views and strategies around curating, choosing and awarding, and the implications of this processes modulating the artistic practice.
PROGRAMME
The salon opens at 3.30 PM with a performance by Mie Frederikke Fisher Christensen & Margaux Parillaud and an ongoing performance by Laura Klinkenberg. At 4PM Clare Butcher will open the floor for the speakers.

The Gerrit Rietveld Academie presents SELECTED: work of exceptionally talented graduates at Castrum Peregrini.
The Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Castrum Peregrini collaborate for the third time to present the work of talented Rietveld graduates, during the exhibition ‘SELECTED’. SELECTED will take place at Castrum Peregrini, in the heart of Amsterdam, from November 13-30.
Participants of the exhibition have all been nominated for the annual ‘GRA Awards’. The GRA Award is a prize that is given each year by the Rietveld Academie to talented students, nominated by an external jury, to support them in further developing their art practice. Participating graduates work in the fields of design, fine arts, graphic design, fashion and new media and graduated at the academy in 2014.
The participants are: Yuri An, Stefan Auberg, Jacob Darfelt, Martin Kähler, Lyubov Matyunina, Sebastian Ly Serena, Lieselot Versteeg, Charlott Weise.
Opening hours: Thursday-Sunday, 2-6 PM, (and by appointment)

From November 27-30, the city of Amsterdam turns into a internationally orientated meeting place for promising artists, art enthusiasts and professionals during Amsterdam Art Weekend. Participants include galleries, museums, art institutes, theaters and artist in recidencies. Young talent can be discovered in a program based on a number of fundamental aspects: exhibitions, performances, screenings, conversations and recidencies.
During this weekend, the exhibition SELECTED (with winners and nominees of the annual GRA Awards of the Rietveld Academie) in Castrum Peregrini, has extra opening hours and offers daily a guided tour by Lieselot Versteeg, followed by a demonstration by Stefan Auberg.

During a special evening Salon at Castrum Peregrini, the phenomenon jury will be judged. Are prizes relevant in the realm of art? What is a Jury? How does it function, does it help to be liked by the jury?
The participating audience with a joint venture of jury members, prize winners and nominees will share their views on this topic. Moderation by curator Hilde de Bruijn (Cobra Museum), introduction on the theme by visual artist and writer Richtje Reinsma.
SELECTED Salon is part of the exhibition SELECTED at
Castrum Peregrini, participants of this exhibition are exceptionally talented graduates of the Rietveld Academie.
Entrance is free and we welcome the audience to join the conversation. Before and after the Salon, there is the possibility to visit the exhibition.
