Rietveld in de Oude Kerk: wonder & Wander
Rietveld in de Oude Kerk 2015
April 10 - May 3
Opening April 10
5pm - 8pm
The Oude Kerk is the oldest church in Amsterdam, situated in the Red Light District. Rietveld in de Oude Kerk has been a recurring event for many years, and gives students the opportunity to present their work on a monumental location. For the about 50 selected students it is one of the first experiences with creating an exhibition, for visitors it is an unique insight into the world of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Oude Kerk. Each year a commission decides on a theme for the exhibition. For 2015 the theme will be 'wonder & Wander'.
With 'wonder & Wander' more than 50 students present performances, installations, videos and sculptures in the church in Amsterdam between April 10 and May 3, 2015 .
This year the students have the interior of the church and the many or (not) present objects as a starting point for their work. During the 'beeldenstorm' much of the Catholic imagery has disappeared from the Oude Kerk. Some projects involve reconstructing now missing elements, while others work and respond to the situation. All this from a contemporary perspective.
As a guide to the exhibition, a collection of essays is published, written by students of the department Beeld & Taal .
Opening: Friday April 10 5 - 8 PM (free entrance)
Location: Oude Kerk, Oudekerksplein, de Wallen Amsterdam
Opening hours: monday - saturday 10am - 6pm, sunday 1pm - 5.30pm
Prices: 7,50 euro (students 5 euro), free with Museum card and Rietveld student card

Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Oude Kerk Amsterdam present:
OMG
From Friday 20 January until Sunday 5 February 2012, students from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie will be presenting their work in the Old Church (Oude Kerk) in Amsterdam in an exhibition entitled ‘OMG’. In an ice-cold church in one of the city's hottest districts, ‘OMG’ will provide visitors with a unique glimpse into the world of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. While the exhibition is running, the Old Church will continue to provide its usual religious services. In presenting this exhibition, the students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie are demonstrating that, even in 2012, traditional and new ideas can go hand in hand in a 12th-century Protestant church.
As well as providing the public with an inside view of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, ‘OMG’ is also offering a different perspective on Amsterdam's oldest church. Sculptures, performances, installations, videos and paintings will be presented in the most unexpected, curious and Christian locations. The students will be gaining one of their first experiences of creating an exhibition and everything that this involves.
‘OMG’ will be officially opened by NRC columnist Joyce Roodnat at 17.00 on Friday, 20 January 2012.
On Sunday, 23 January 2012, students will be providing special guided tours to churchgoers. The guided tours will begin immediately after the Sunday service.
The exhibition will run until 5 February 2012.
