Marjolein Charlotte heeft de GRA-design prijs 2011 heeft ontvangen. Gekoppeld aan de prijs, heeft Buro Rietveld haar 4 maanden het gebruik van het GRA Award Residency in de 2de Nassaustraat aangeboden. Deze periode heeft zij aangegrepen om de verschillende media waarvan zij gebruikt maakt bij elkaar te brengen en te presenteren.

Marjolein Charlotte Hessels is kunstenaar en arts. Tijdens haar studie Interaction Design and Unstable Media bij Gerrit Rietveld Academie/DOGTIME is zij uitgegaan van het lichaam als instabiel medium. De zintuigen, spieren en klieren vormen de interface van het lichaam. Informatie uit de binnen- en buitenwereld is de basis voor de perceptie. Informatie is een proces waarin het lichaam wordt verstoord en zich herstelt. De informatie transformeert het lichaam, het transformeert het medium. Technologie als extensie van het lichaam biedt andere mogelijkheden voor het lichaam om de wereld te beleven. Gekoppeld daaraan heeft het consequenties voor onze identiteit, onze zelf representatie, onze ervaring van de wereld.

Marjolein Charlotte received the GRA-design award 2011. Related to the GRA-award, Buro-Rietveld offered her to use the GRA-project space for a period of 4 months. Marjolein Charlotte took this period to bring the different media she makes use of together and to present them.

Marjolein Charlotte Hessels is an artists and a medical docter. During her studies Interaction Design and Unstable Media at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie/DOGTIME, she approached the human body as an unstable medium. The senses, muscles and glands are the interface of the body. Information from the inside and outside World is the origin of perception. Information is a process through which the body is disturbed and recovers. The information transforms the body, it transforms the medium. Technology as an extension of the body offers the body different possibilities to experience the world. This has consequences on our identity, our self representation, our perception of the world.
