In the documentary ‘De Belofte’ seven promising young artists are closely being followed for a period of one year. Alma, Maurice, Mila, Jolan, Merel, Claire and Iselin graduated in 2011 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Documentary maker Jenne Sipman followed them in the year after their graduation and shows in an intense way the often paradoxical choices that ambitious young artists make. ‘De Belofte’ depicts the (im)possibilities, dilemmas, successes and ambitions of a young artist. From 5 to 13 January 2013 the main characters from the documentary show new works in the ‘Openbare Verlichting Gebouw’ at Westergasterrein. On 9 and 11 January debate evenings will take place where topics such as the autobiographic element, public expectations and commerce will be discussed. These evenings are moderated by Jellie Brouwer, editor of the program Kunstof (AVRO). On Sunday, January 13 is the finnissage with performances.
