Boy Politics — Marc Roig Blesa

BOY POLITICS by Marc Roig Blesa

14/05/13—07/06/13
Opening: May 14, 5pm

A visual essay by Marc Roig Blesa (Madrid, 1981) analysing the historical and still present instrumentalisation of the figure of the boy. This first presentation of the project is structured in twelve sections: Science, Education, Hygiene, Work, Family, Music, Art, Media, Sexuality, Sport, Fight and Murder, which derive from Roig Blesa's second hand book collection. All books presented were published between the 1920's and the 1980's. Boy Politics is inspired by Walter Benjamin's Materialistic Historiography method, a chance for revolution through fighting the oppressed past.
This first presentation at the library of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy marks the starting point of a larger project that will crystallise in the publication of a book reproducing all spreads presented in the exhibition and a selection of related readings.

Marc Roig Blesa graduated from the VAV department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2009. Since then he has been collaborating with Rogier Delfos on Werker Magazine, a contextual publication about photography and labour that inquires into the possibility of formulating a contemporary representation of work.
The presentation at the academy's library is organized in conjunction with a workshop by Marc Roig Blesa at the Graphic Design department.
