Talk by Benjamin Thorel about The Social Life of the Book

The Social Life of the Book
a talk by Benjamin Thorel
Tuesday November 25, 17h30

The Rietveld library hosts a talk by critic and curator Benjamin Thorel about the series The Social Life of the Book.

The Social Life of the Book is a collection of commissioned texts dealing with books, and how they engage with the circulation of ideas and the agency of social situations. It brings together artists, publishers, writers, designers, booksellers, etc. who consider books less as finished objects or forms but for their disruptive potential and their ability to produce new relationships, new publics and new meanings.
The series is published by Paraguay Press, the publishing house of castillo/corrales, a collectively-run independent art gallery in Paris, of which Benjamin Thorel is one of the members.

The series features five instalments so far: MAKING BOOKS by Oscar Tuazon, THE WET AND THE DRY by Moyra Davey, INFANT A by Louis Lüthi, KINESICS OF THE PAGE by Avigail Moss and DIE TOILETTE by Jon Bywater, Louise Menzies and Marnie Slater. Instalments four and five have been printed by Joos Mooi at the print workshop of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
